frequently asked questions

When do I need to pay?

50% deposit is due at the time of booking to secure your session date or due date.

Your balance is then due prior to your session or due date.

When will we receive our photos?

Within three weeks of your session you will receive your online proofing gallery.  Here you will be able to view your images and select which ones you would like (you will either choose 30 images or you can choose to upgrade to the whole gallery).  These will be sent to you as a digital download.

If you are purchasing printed products, these will arrive within four weeks of the order date.

How soon should I book?

I recommend booking ASAP to avoid disappointment.

How old should my newborn be when we have our photos taken?

The answer to this is different for everyone. I adore photographing newborns within the first week of their life just as much as I love them at eight or twelve weeks when they’re full of smiles! The right time is the time that feels right to you, and there’s no pressure to make that decision before baby is born.

What are in hospital newborn sessions?

Also known as Fresh 48s, these are very special sessions for new families who want the first few hours of their newborn's life captured. I will come to your place of birth within baby’s first few days of life and photograph your baby’s sweet new moments in a raw and natural way.  I will capture shots of your little one’s first yawns, cute little baby feet, fingers, belly button along with first feedings, cuddles and those quiet moments between you and your new little one. If you have older children I can also photograph the magical moment they meet their new sibling.

The documentary nature of in hospital newborn photography means you can totally stay in your pyjamas!

What should we wear?

Take a look at my styling page to see the options I have available for mamas and newborns. Dads and children are best dressed in something comfortable that compliments mama’s outfit.

Textures such as linen, cotton, denim, silk and lace always photograph beautifully. I love to photograph neutrals and muted pastels as much as I love rich earthy colours. All of these things will help to set the tone of your photographs - so it can be whatever you want it to be! This is YOUR session so let your personal style shine.

I do recommend avoiding anything too matchy-matchy, obvious logos and character prints as they don’t photograph well.

What time will our session be?

I usually schedule in-home lifestyle sessions for around 10am in the morning as this is when the light is best in most homes and babies are often happiest in the morning. I am flexible around kid nap times and your family's routine, so feel free to let me know the time of day that suits you best.  Happy babies/kids are my number one priority, so generally straight after their morning nap is a great time to begin our shoot!

Outdoor sessions take place at golden hour, starting at around 4:30pm in winter and 6:30pm in summer.

What if we are all snotty and sick on our session date?

If you're sick, we reschedule!  No re-booking fees or any of that nonsense.  I want you all happy, bright and well for photo day.  I make a point not to photograph families, particularly those with new and young babies, if I have even the slightest hint of a cold.  If I'm sick, we will also reschedule.

Will you retouch our photos/make me look skinnier/whiten my teeth?

Short answer, no.  All of my photos are professionally and carefully edited to bring out the absolute best in colour and tone.  If you would like any additional high-end editing done such as skin retouching, teeth whitening, slimming etc, this can be done at an extra, hourly rate.  All photos that you see on my website have been edited to my standard, and this is what you can expect when you receive your photos.

What’s the most important thing I need to remember?

So glad you asked. The most important thing you need to do during your session (and in life) is this:

Slow down.  Be present.  Have fun with your babies.

These photographs will serve as reminders of this time in your lives. Reminders that it's the small things that count.  Reminders to breathe in and hold the ones you love.
